6 January 1949, training course, Maria Montessori tells her students, "That which is interesting and which must be noticed, especially in the succession or events in the development of movement is that, even though there is no heredity, all the children all over the world achieve the same things at the same
same age. They attain the same achievements at the same age. This shows that the process is not free but that it follows a guide — so that when we say that the children must be able to have free activity, we mean free in the scheme of those laws which are common to the whole of humanity."
